Twitter Me This - More Twitter Marketing

Twitter Me This

One topic I like to cover on the site is the use of social networks like Twitter in marketing. So far, there hasn’t been much done in this area aside from using the service to connect with customers for public relations. That is because by and large, Twitter is still a push mechanism. It is a great way to write a message and blast it out to lots of people for virtually nothing.

Then I scanned some of the latest social media news on All Top and came across an article on Read Write Web that pointed me to Twitter Me This. I’ll quickly just copy and paste their description of it:

Twittermethis (as in, “Riddle me this”) is a new Twitter marketing experiment from blogger Jim Kukral. The idea is simple: Everyday Kukral asks his followers on @twittermethis a question. The first correct response to come back to him is awarded $5 via PayPal. Why? Jim’s motivation for the project was to see how successful he could be at using Twitter as a marketing vehicle. So far, about two weeks after launching, he has just over 300 followers. But Twittermethis is an excellent example of the kind of marketing Twitter is perfect for.

Very clever indeed. RWW goes on to speculate that Twitter Me This could start to ask sponsored questions which could then bring in revenue for Kukral, covering his costs of awarding his $5 paypal prizes and then some.

On this blog I had discussed something similar, using Twitter to give away electronic coupons for businesses like restaurants, etc.

It is only a matter of time before marketers really pick up on Twitter and creatively discover ways of bringing in new customers. Twitter Me This (which I followed as a part of writing about it) is just one of many potential ways marketers can use social media.
