The iPhone Inspires Competitors

Sprint unveils the Instinct

The iPhone has changed our expectations for a mobile phone and the way we browse the web on the go. Just today, Ad Age reported on Sprint’s new “Instinct” phone. The inspiration for the Instinct is immediately obvious.

No, I’m not mad that Sprint has more or less lifted the iPhone’s look and feel. Why fix what isn’t broke? Still, Sprint Chief Marketing Officer William Ogle boasts that the Instinct is an improvement over the iPhone. The phone is being manufactured by Samsung and adds a feedback buzz tone to its touch screen and runs on a faster network than AT&T’s Edge.

Competition like this will only spur future improvements and innovation in mobile devices, specifically cellular, and their ability to deliver us a true “internet” experience on the go. I’m excited to see what Sprint and other companies can do to push innovators like Apple to continue to push the technological envelope.

I’m so sick of the Dell MS platform I’m on, I’m thinking about moving to a MAC, which would have an impact on my wireless expereince as well. I am a Sprint customer. I love Sprint, but I am so tired of MS and the PC platform, which sync’s to my Palm. I’m tired of blue screens, locked up browsers, blame between MS and Dell. Why doesn’t Sprint and Apple get together and migrate Sprint to the iPhone too? Is ATT in the way? Probably. Causing me to get out of Sprint’s way. There is a ripple effect here isn’t there?
